Visions 2022 Featuring Desmond Cheese

Visions

β€˜Visions’ depicts the band Desmond Cheese and mirrors their upcoming release of the same title. This artwork is not a portrait piece delving into each band member but an attempt to capture the essence of the music's creative process. Coincidentally, the band and I connected through friends more than a decade ago when we started our creative practices. With ties to graffiti, art, hip-hop, and jazz, the spontaneous connection has influenced my creative practice and way of thinking. Desmond Cheese has always had a clear vision for their music, which revolves around friendship, family, inclusivity and collaboration while allowing inspiration to come from the environment around them, often sampling sounds from nature. As a result, they have steadily produced music that I believe captures Brisbane, Queensland, a sound distinct to their way of life.

Since those first interactions

these notions have always been in the back of my mind. I am trying to do the same with my work, aspiring to allow inspiration to come naturally from my surroundings, strengthened by the people around me. So often, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day, losing sight of what's essential. Prioritising the enjoyment of life with friends and family puts stress and anxiety into perspective, allowing for a more genuine creative practice that comes naturally.
